English Flintlock Pistol, Manufactured by Bunney, 18th C. - Steel

(Ref: DX237G)

"Flintlock" pistols were so called because the lock uses a flint to strike sparks into the priming pan when the trigger is pulled. A small amount of gunpowder in this pan is ignited, which in turn ignites the main gunpowder charge in the barrel, firing the lead ball. Both the main charge and the ball were loaded from the front, or muzzle, of the barrel, after which the priming charge was poured into the pan – all very time consuming! Often the priming charge would burn but fail to ignite the main charge – whence the expression "flash in the pan!" The original of this particular flintlock pistol was made in London during the 18th century. This non-firing version is accurately detailed - a great costume or conversation piece.

British Knife-Flintlock Pistol, early 19th C.

(Ref: DX1023)

The flintlock pistol was notoriously slow to reload - a severe limitation in close encounters of the dangerous kind! Many solutions to the problem were tried, but one of the more successful was a pistol/dagger combination, whereby a very effective weapon was still to hand after the shots had been fired (or maybe not fired - misfires with flintlocks were common). The original of this pistol was made in London, early in the 18th. century and the skill of the maker is very evident. This non-firing replica is accurate in size and detail - a great costume or conversation piece.

English Pepperbox Pistol, 1815

(Ref: DX1071L)

The Pepper-box revolver or pepperbox revolver is a multishot handheld firearm, which was popular in North America around the time of the American Civil War. The pepperbox was invented in the 1830s and was meant mainly for civilian use. It spread rapidly in the United Kingdom and some parts of continental Europe. It started disappearing gradually in the 1850s with the manufacture of true revolvers by Colt, Webley and others. It was similar to the later revolver since it contained bullets in separate chambers in a rotating cylinder. Unlike the revolver however, each chamber had its own barrel. This English Pepperbox Pistol is brought to you by Denix, it is non-fireable with a functional mechanism.

  • Non-fireable
  • Functional mechanism
  • Authentic detailing
